Marvel Says Cryptocurrencies are a Breakthrough Technology

During Ant-man and the Wasp, Marvel’s new film, they reference cryptocurrencies in the context that it was a breakthrough technology, alongside nano-tech, artificial intelligence and quantum technology.

Ant-man and the Wasp is the sequel to Ant-Man, a hit movie raking in over 500 million USD at box office starring Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, who’s also Ant-Man. Whilst this film was rather comedic and action-packed, many argue it wasn’t as good as the first Ant-Man film. As with all Marvel films, I would highly recommend watching Ant-Man and the Wasp, if you’re anything like me, you’ll instantly jump up when they mention cryptocurrencies.

Towards the beginning of the film, Sonny Burch, played by Walton Goggins, is making an exchange with the Wasp, played by Evangeline Lilly, involving money and quantum technology parts. Quantum technology is both revolutionary and a breakthrough in physics. Below is an explanation of Quantum Computing, taken from Forbes, which helps to explain the general idea.

“When you enter the world of atomic and subatomic particles, things begin to behave in unexpected ways. In fact, these particles can exist in more than one state at a time. It’s this ability that quantum computers take advantage of. Instead of bits, which conventional computers use, a quantum computer uses quantum bits—known as qubits. To illustrate the difference, imagine a sphere. A bit can be at either of the two poles of the sphere, but a qubit can exist at any point on the sphere. So, this means that a computer using qubits can store an enormous amount of information and uses less energy doing so than a classical computer. By entering into this quantum area of computing where the traditional laws of physics no longer apply, we will be able to create processors that are significantly faster (a million or more times) than the ones we use today. Sounds fantastic, but the challenge is that quantum computing is also incredibly complex.”

During the exchange between the Wasp and Sonny, Sonny explains that he is intrigued in partnering with the Wasp and Dr. Pym. He states that he knows what they’ve been building and proceeds to say “And you can forget nano-tech. Forget AI. Forget cryptocurrency. Quantum energy is the future. It's the next gold rush.”

Sonny is going through some of the most recent breakthrough technologies and saying that they’re the next best things after quantum energy, whilst also claiming that they have all been gold rushes, indicating how spectacular and incredible cryptocurrencies are.

Whilst it was only a brief mention, this shows that many people around the world, no matter how powerful, are acknowledging cryptos as being the next big thing and acknowledging how revolutionary they are. Ant-Man is one of the largest franchises to have mentioned cryptocurrencies and more and more people are referencing them in films and tv programmes. Unbeknown to the public, Marvel writers and executive may have adopted Bitcoin or Ethereum.
